Athens to Meteora Full-Day Trip by Train

Redeem your train e-ticket (we will email it to you after your booking) for the 07:57 morning train departure from the Central Railway Station of Athens (Stathmos Larissis) to Kalabaka and travel on your own. Embark on a scenic train ride through the Greek countryside and admire the beautiful landscapes.

After the scenic train ride through the beautiful Greek countryside, you will arrive at 12:03 to Kalabaka’s train station, where our tour guide will be waiting for you holding a signboard with your name. You will then board in a comfortable VIP minibus in order to begin an unforgettable journey to this true wonder called Meteora.

During this guided tour you will have the opportunity to see all six magnificent monasteries and admire the interior of three of them. Additionally, you will view some of Meteora’s most spectacular hidden gems like the ancient Chapel of Doupiani and the magnificent St. George “Mandilas” cave.

You will also discover the “other side” of Meteora, like the truth about why the hermits settled in these imposing caves a thousand years ago and how the monks achieved the “impossible”. Last but not least, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views and capture some amazing photos that you will cherish forever.

At around 16:45 we will transfer you in the town of Kalambaka (nearby Kalabaka’s train station). The train back to Athens departs at 18:22 so you will have approximately an hour and a half of free time in order for you to visit one of the many restaurant and cafes, explore (on foot) the center of Kalabaka and relax. You will arrive in Athens at around 22:26.

• The monasteries of Meteora impose a strict dress code. Men must wear long trousers. Women must wear long skirts and cover their shoulders.
• The monasteries of Meteora only accept cash for the entrance fees.
• Your train e-tickets will be sent to your email shorty after your booking.
• Effective Until May 14: The train operator has temporarily changed the Athens to Meteora train schedule. It now departs at 8:28 AM with arrival at 1:11 PM. The return trip is at 4:45 PM with arrival at 9:26 PM. Visit 2 monasteries instead of 3 (everything else remains the same).
