Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the first Olympic Games includes the Sanctuary
of Zeus, the temple of
Hera and various temples where it was directly related to worship and
various buildings built around it such as sports facilities used to perform the
Olympic Games, auxiliary buildings, utilitarian and administrative, as well as
decorations of a decorative character. All the buildings and temples are housed
in the hill of the sacred alley.

Inside the holy
place dominates the great temple of Zeus
and the temple of Hera. There was
also a temple dedicated to the mother of the gods Rea and behind it the treasures that the ancient Greek cities had
dedicated. Still there is a Nymphet the aqueduct that Herod Atticus offered to
the Holy Temple. You also find a funerary monument dedicated to the hero
Pelopi, the Pithaneio, the administrative building of the sanctuary, and the
beautiful circular building that was dedicated by Philip II the king of
Macedonia. The rest of the area was full of altars, statues of gods and heroes,
statuettes of the Olympians, tributes to eminent individuals and Greek cities,
among them the famous Peony Prize.

There was also
the gymnasium and the pallet, the
training rooms, the workshop of Pheidias,
the Greek baths with the swimming pool, the Roman baths, the Theokoleon (the home of the priests)
and Leonidio the hostel of the
official of the time. East of the temple was the legendary Stage in which the Olympic
Games commenced in honor of Zeus and was held every 4 years.
