ZAMBIA HIGHLIGHTS: Lodge Tour in Lower Zambezi, Kafue, and South Luangwa National Parks

TOUR ITINERARY 

Day 1: Lusaka:

After arrival in Lusaka transfer to a small lodge in the outskirts of town. Overnight in chalets at Pioneer Camp or similar.  

Days 2, 3, and 4: Lower Zambezi National Park

After breakfast, drive through Lusaka and down the escarpment to the Zambezi valley. A visit to the Lower Zambezi Park is one of the highlights in Zambia.
The Zambezi River on the one side and the Escarpment on the other form the backdrop of our game viewing. In here you will do game drives in the Park and boating along the river shore to watch the animals come to drink. On one of the days, your activity will be a sunset boat cruise on the Zambezi.

We stay overnight in chalets at Eco Residence Lodge* (or similar) on the banks of the Zambezi River, with your breakfast served in the morning. 

Day 5: via Lusaka to Kafue National Park

Today you drive up the escarpment after your breakfast and back to Lusaka where we do some shopping for the next days in the bush. In the afternoon we carry on to Kafue National Park, where we stay in safari tents at Kubu Kweena Lodge.

Day 6: Kafue National Park - Eastern section

We spend this day with game drives in this area after your breakfast. Kafue National Park is well known for its variety of different species of antelopes. Leopards and pride of lions are also regularly seen in this area. Dinner is being served underneath the starlit sky. Overnight in beautifully situated safari tents at Kubu Kweena Lodge on the banks of the Kafue River.

Days 7, 8, and 9: Busanga Plains – Northern part of Kafue National Park
Transfer in north-western direction to Busanga Plains (partly with the boat up to Lufupa) after your breakfast. This area can only be visited in a very limited time of the year. You will spend 3 days in this remote wilderness to explore the area on game drives and game walks, your breakfast and lunch is included. Overnight in Kasonso Camp.

Day 10: Lusaka

You will leave the plains and - and will be crossing through Kafue National Park on your last game drive after your breakfast - head back to Lusaka and lunch will be served at the chalet. You will be staying at Wilddog Lodge or similar for a night.

Day 11: flight to Mfuwe – South Luangwa National Park

In the early morning transfer back to Lusaka, grab your breakfast as you have an afternoon flight to South Luangwa. Transfer to our lodge next to the Luangwa River. This afternoon there is no activity included. A night game drive can be booked with the lodge (optional). Overnight in chalets of Marula Lodge or safari tents at Wildlife Camp or similar*, dinner will be after your activities in the afternoon.

Days 12, 13, and 14: South Luangwa Park

South Luangwa NP is known for its abundance of African wildlife: Thorneycroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s Gnu, Crawshay Zebra, and big herds of buffalo and elephant. Game drives along the Luangwa River often produce spectacular sightings. Hippo families can be seen in great numbers in the river, unparalleled in Africa. The colorful Carmine bee-eaters are often seen perching in front of their nests in the riverbanks. Overnight in chalets of Marula Lodge or safari tents at Wildlife Camp or similar*, breakfast included. 

Day 15: Departure:

Transfer to the airport Mfuwe and flight back home.
