Badagry Slave Trade History 3-Day Tour from Lagos

Slave trade started in the ancient town of Badagry around 1473 by a Portuguese slave merchant named Ferman Gomez who commenced the sales of slaves to Europe. On this tour, we'll travel back in time into the slave trade Era in Lagos State and discover the history of slavery on the Western Coast.

Itinerary:

Day 1

Upon arrival at Murtala Modamed International Airport, you will be picked up by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel before heading out to start the first part of your Badagry heritage tour. 

Visit to Badagry’s historical sites including Mobee Family Slave Relics Museum, First Storey Building in Nigeria, Badagry Heritage Museum, Seriki Abass Slave Barracoon, Akran Palace, and the Point of No Return. Take in the marks of the European traders’ cruelty during the slave trading period. Next, tour Makoko Floating Slums and capture the lives of endangered Nigerians living around the area. You will then head to Whispering Palms Resort or similar. 

Day 2

Today, you will visit the remaining tourist attractions in Badagry such as the Agia Tree Monument, Vlekete Slave Market, Wawu Palace Cannon Guns, Sato Drum Statue, St. Thomas’ Anglican Primary School, Akran Palace, and the District Officer’s Residence. Continue to Benin-Nigeria border to learn more about the history between the two territories.  Later this afternoon return to your hotel for the evening. 

Day 3

After breakfast, enjoy last-minute shopping at Agbalata Market - the first international market in Nigeria. End the day with a journey back to Lagos.
