Ibadan being the largest city in West Africa with over 3.6 million inhabitants comes with major historical significance showcasing its prerevelutionary milieu dating back to Nigeria’s colonial era as well as being on the doorstep of a rich, thriving wetland reserve called the “IITA Forest Reserve” home to an abundance of plant and animal species. A brilliant blend of two worlds tightly woven together in a pure bona-fide adventure which will leave you with lasting memories.
TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: IITA FOREST RESERVE TOUR
After breakfast at Adis Hotel, a shuttle will pick you up at and you will embark on a 30 mins trip down the Oyo Road to Iita Forest. IITA Forest Reserve is best seen at the start of the day as it will give you more time to explore the reserve with your guide or if you want to alone with nature. On the rainy season, Iita Forest boasts the best hue of nature — greener trees, cleaner air, and flowers on its full bloom! Picturesque landscapes, farmlands, lakes, and ponds, Iita forest is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle in the city. It is considered a paradise for nature lovers and birdwatchers as its 350 hectares of land shelters about 200 species of birds and butterflies. You can tick off one on your Save the Planet bucket list by participating in Iita’s tree planting program in the reserve! End your day by sharing life stories and adventures as you warm up by the campfire.
Day 2: AGODI GARDEN AND IBADAN CITY TOUR
Drop off your gears at Adis, and take a dip at Agodi Gardens. Beat the heat at one of the famous tourist spots Ibadan, the Agodi Gardens, or also called Agoda Botanical Garden. Enjoy the serenity of lush greens and scenery as you chill by the pool. Make sure to try out Nigeria’s traditional finger foods, Asun and Suya at the restaurant.
Shopping, history, and culture await as you stroll in Nigeria’s second-largest city will begin in Mapo Hall. Mapo Hall is one of the oldest buildings in Nigeria and possesses a colonial architecture. Walk down the history of Ibadan as you stroll the halls of Mapo and discover relics from the colonial era, the history Ibadan and its famous rulers. The next stop will be Bower’s Tower, named after Captain Lister Bower, the Bower’s Tower sits on the highest hill Ibadan — Oke Are. You will have an excellent view of Ibadan’s traditional red roofs, which will make your trip Instagram worthy!
The last stop will be Oja-Oba or also known as the “King’s Market. Oja Oba is one of the biggest and ancient markets in Ibadan. Shop your heart out while you interact with the locals, make sure to purchase an “Adire” for your souvenir, and try Ibadan’s famous street food — Amala. Dinner will be at Kokodome.
Day 3: IKOGOSI WARM SPRINGS
Get ready for the 3hr drive from Ibadan to Ikogosi, discover the tale of the Hunter and his two wives, and the other interesting folklore tales of how Ikogosi was formed by Mother Nature. Ikogosi’s unique feature is that the spring is both warm and cold! It gets warmer as you go deeper. Dinner will be back at the hotel.
Day 4: A shuttle will waiting to take you to the airport. Head home, hearts, and mind at ease, as another one of kind trip, ends.
