Tsaratanana Nature Reserve and Maramokotro Mountain Tour

Mount Maramokotro is the Highest Peak in Madagascar, located in Tsaratanana Park the in the north of the island. The mountain while humble in the face of Asian altitudes happens to also be a trek nestled in a nature park in the most beautiful range of the island and down along the Simbrano River. Tsaratanana hosts samples of around half of the Mada endemic plants and animals that make the island so special, and bristles with beautiful flowers and birds and butterflies cresting the hills while lemurs call out in some ranges as well. This tour is a great detour deep into nature after a beachstay in Nosy Be to the north, or a business trip to Ambanja. MTT can pick you up and commence here from either place.

There are 2 options: One is a supported trek of 5 days during which we summit and camp on the mountain and see the park, with guides and food and gear included. The other is to drop you to do the trek yourself and arrange permits for the mountain and park, at your own risk (recommended to bring a satellite phone if so in case of emergencies due to how uninhabited the area is.)

Simbranatazaotra is the last village en route to the mountain we can drop you at -14.047853, 48.628563, the last village after Marovato, 2 days from Nosy Be by offroad and footpath.

Itinerary from Nosy Be NOS Airport:

Day 1: Departure from your chose Nosy Be hotel in the morning, and transfer with our MTT North Team to the Hellville > Ankify ferry. We see a bit of Nosy Be island and beaches on the way, and disembark at the Ankify pier and head overland to Ambanja, taking a tour of the area and "chocolateville" where cacao is grown for the top premium crop of the industry. Day 2: Departure by SUV and then foot from Ambanja to Marovato and then to the valley villages rimming the park. Overnight at the village

Day 3-4-5-6-7: Hiking and Trekking in the Park and to the Summit of Maramokotro. Camping and cooking, nature guide supported. Satellite Phone and SAR equipped.

Day 8: Return to Ambanja by Road, midrange hotel.

Day 9: Return to Nosy Be by Ferry, drop off at chosen location anywhere on the Nosy Be big island.
